Oscar winner Brad Pitt, fresh off the box office success of F1 and ready to wow us with the sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood titled The Adventures of Cliff Booth, will soon return to the big screen with the film Heart of the Beast, a survival thriller that will reunite him with director David Ayer.
The first images from Heart of the Beast are available at GQ magazine, published alongside a preview article dedicated to the film: the movie tells the story of a former soldier and his retired combat dog as they try to return to civilization after a catastrophic accident in the heart of Alaska’s breathtaking yet dangerous wilderness (New Zealand serves as the film’s location).
This survival thriller reunites Brad Pitt and David Ayer, who previously collaborated on the World War II tank thriller “Fury.” Other cast members include Oscar winner J.K. Simmons (“Whiplash,” “Westies”) and Canadian actress of Inuit descent Anna Lambe (“The Social Reckoning,” “True Detective: Night Country”). Brad Pitt plays James Belmont, a 30-year Army Special Forces veteran who travels to the Alaskan wilderness with his canine companion Odin, but a plane crash leaves them stranded and forced to rely on each other to reach safety.
“He’s a beast,” David Ayer said of Brad Pitt in the film. “He showed vulnerability and exposed himself in a way I’d never seen before. A recurring comment from those who have seen the film is how raw, believable, and profound his performance is. Whether it’s a pair of soldiers in a tank, two police officers in a car, or a former soldier and his working dog, these are two beings who have been through hell together and share a deep bond and a unique intimacy. Working with animals is an experience all its own, and sometimes you sense a lack of connection when shooting these films, but we made the dog a living, breathing, well-rounded character with an intense and profound presence. And you can feel their story, their bond.”
Paramount Pictures’ “Heart of the Beast” will hit theaters on September 25. We can assume a teaser trailer is on the way, though it’s not yet clear when the studio will release it.
